Public-health guidance recognizes different responses
CDC reports that damp and moldy environments may cause stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing or wheezing, burning eyes, or skin rash in some people. People with asthma or mold allergies may have more intense reactions, and people with weakened immune systems or chronic lung disease may face additional risks.
The presence or color of mold does not establish the cause of a specific symptom. Timing, medical history, other exposures, and the building condition all matter.
